Doctor Faustus Evaluation of Performance

Mime
Our mime at the beginning looked more affective from an audiences spepective, as i had doubts of how the mime would come across. I further believe that the music fitted in well with the theme and aspects of hell within the play.

Costume
We all wore black to connotate death, darkness and depression. The darkness of hell of having to be their for eternity reflects the colour of black and thats why it was chosen.

Lighting and Technical
The blackouts between scenes made it recognisable to the audience that the scene was changing and that it suggested only parts of the play are portrayed not the whole thing.
The dimmed red light represents the devils presence as he has be characterised in the bible as a 'red beast'.

Staging
Throughout the play we all stood on blocks in two, this looked very daunting in the shadows from an audiences perspective, each block represented each deadly sin.

Overview of acting
In overviewing the play, a performance that stood out to me as Josh playing the good angel. The voice he portrayed had a very persausive tone to it and he really exhagurated his voice when trying to bribe faustus to stay on the good side.
I liked that Katrina and Beth thought through their use of props and i thought it was effective that they used josh and john as a chair and table, this was clever and simplistic and didn't draw the attention away from the acting. Furthermore, it meant that props didn't have to be moved on and off of stage making scene changes awkward as we all stayed on the blocks during the whole performance it would have looked awkward if a scene changed moved for only one scene.

I believe that i stayed in character throughout the play, my clarity was clear and i was confident. I could have thought through my movements more so i have profound movements between emotions. The pause before my line 'Is't not too late?' broke up the script and made the emotion of the play change which was affective for the audience.
When the sins came around me and i was sitting in the middle this changed the hierarchy within the piece, as the devil persuades me to join him in hell.

Another point in the play that i picked up on cherkanna moved saxoanas hands to behind her back I was confused in this action as i thought at first she was being handcuffed and restricted her hands. Sax kept them there until the pope entered and she just moved her hands back which then confused me to wonder whether she was handcuffed or not.
